In today’s world we live in haste and often forget to stop and connect with our natural world. The purpose of the California Creatures Animal Guardian Oracle Deck is to allow the reader to take a moment out of their day and to connect with Mother Nature regardless of their surroundings. The idea behind this deck came to me through personal experience. When I was going through one of the most difficult times in my life, I was fortunate enough to live and work in the redwoods of Santa Cruz County. On a daily basis I would take long walks, and every day I would encounter an animal. I began to take note of the animals crossing my path and the messages that they were conveying to me. For weeks, I saw snakes every day and knew that I was transforming and shedding my skin. Banana slugs and deer taught me humility and unconditional love. Birds of all kinds showed up on my porch while coyotes and grey foxes howled through the woods and into my bedroom at night. Throughout all of these interactions, I allowed myself to integrate the wisdom they were teaching me and to surrender to Mother Nature. A desire to share the wisdom that I received began to grow. My intention of making this deck came from this desire and a artistic bond with my mother. Our mutual love of animals nourished the creation of over 60 original animal prints. Friends, coworkers, and family helped shape the choices we made as to which animals would be included in the deck. The aim is to educate the reader about these marvelous creatures while also showing their spiritual connection to humanity. As the reader plays with this deck and reads about these creatures, the intention is that they will allow the creature’s guidance into their lives, bringing them a sense of comfort and peace.
